“I wore a different outfit for every lap at Endure24”

Participant Stories

We welcome so many incredible people to Endure24 each year, whether they’re taking on the challenge Solo or part of a Team. We asked to hear from you about your experience at Endure24 this year – so let’s kickstart our Stories from Endure24 with Tim from Pocklington.

If you took part in Endure24 Leeds this year, you may recognise Tim from his numerous musical outfits – twelve to be exact! Tim took part in Endure24 to fundraise for St Leonard’s Hospice in York, running 12 laps, with “each lap celebrating a different musical genre with a costume and soundtrack to match.” Not only did Tim show off his incredible talents in the wardrobe department, but he also completed 60 miles and raised £1,600 for charity.

Having taken part in Endure24 many times before, and once as a Solo runner, Tim was no stranger as to what to expect and prepared by running the Edinburgh Marathon. However, there are always going to be challenges no matter how much you prepare…

Starting off strong, Tim ran the first four laps with several members of his running club, Pocklington Runners, sporting an Elvis, ABBA, 80’s and girl power costume for each lap; singing and dancing their way around the 8km route. The next two laps saw Tim take on the Brit Pop and Rock personas; he had to dig a bit more, but the tunes carried him through. A short break was extended due to the unpredictable British weather, but Tim was back out on the course by 11pm, this time bringing Disco and 90’s Dance to Bramham Park. The rain may have meant underfoot was slightly muddy, but Tim’s disco light kept his spirits high.

“We crossed the line at 12.24pm, having had singing, dancing, laughter, tears and lots of silliness…”

After hitting the hay for 3 hours, Tim returned to the course for his final 3 laps, taking it easy with Country and The Greatest Showman. Tim was joined for the final lap by some of his running club: “we crossed the line at 12.24pm, having had singing, dancing, laughter, tears and lots of silliness, but a thoroughly enjoyable experience.”

We can’t wait to see what fancy dress you have in store for us next year at Endure24! If you’re feeling inspired to see how far you will go, sign up now. Fancy taking on Endure24 Solo? Ballot spots may have gone, but you can still enter for charity.
